Soil monitoring funding program
The Federal Government is offering farmers the chance to access funding support for soil testing as part of a national effort to populate an extensive National Soils Database. The program offers up to $10,000 for landholders to put towards soil sample extraction and analysis (done to specific standards). The sampling conducted could be used as ERF-compliant soil carbon project baseline samples. For more information, give us a call, or visit the program website for more info.
Carbon West project news
As Australia celebrates 10 years since the launch of the federal carbon market framework, Carbon West is also celebrating a 10th milestone. This month, we prepare to start work on registration of our 10th ERF soil carbon project. With our growing list of soil carbon projects on land across the South-West land division, from Denmark to Mullewa, Carbon West is learning a lot from the diversity of projects we’re assisting with and building some excellent relationships across the growing carbon sector. Through collaborations with various technology companies, we’re working towards the goal of lowering the cost of carbon credit generation.
Carbon West’s ‘ERF Carbon Opportunities Report’ offering is also providing us with lots of work in educating the farmers who are curious but not yet knowledgeable on how carbon can fit into their business in the future.
Call us for a quote on a customised report for your property to help support good decisions around ensuring your business adapts to the reality of a low-carbon future.
CF-LRP second round
Landholders who believe they can store carbon on their land and would like to have a crack at a carbon project will soon be offered another chance to apply for access to the funds required to do so. Lessons learned in the first round of the Carbon Farming and Land Restoration Fund program developed by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) are expected to guide changes to the program for those wanting to apply for Round 2.
If you’d like an easy-to-understand summary of how the CF-LRP works and the possible value it may present your business you can call us here at Carbon West for a chat.
EU trade deal progresses - US shows interest in Carbon border price
It is becoming more likely that carbon neutrality will increasingly be a key factor in access to international markets. The Trade deal between Australia and the EU is progressing again but climate targets remain a crucial factor in the trade talks after Dombrovskis declared last week that trade partners in new deals would have to honour “core provisions” of global standards including emission cuts committed to under the Paris Agreement at the United Nations.
Quote of the week
“Australia will become a victim if we don’t become part of the solution.”
- Tony Windsor, addressing the Carbon Market Institute Symposium to mark the 10th anniversary of Australia’s carbon industry, July 1, 2022.
